Richard Veit, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president for academic affairs and professor of anthropology at Monmouth University, appears as a featured historical expert in "Monmouth County at War: Rebels, Raiders, and Revolution," a documentary now available for free streaming on YouTube following its online debut June 24.
Produced by the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee, the 60-minute film examines Monmouth County's role in the American Revolution, including the Battle of Monmouth, divided local loyalties, the rise of the Black Brigade led by Col. Tye, smuggling networks and the conflict's impact on local communities.
"I was honored to have the opportunity to participate in this film with an all-start team of historians," Veit said.
Veit, a scholar of historical archaeology and New Jersey history, serves on the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee's advisory board, which provides historical guidance for countywide programming tied to America's 250th anniversary in 2026. His appearance in the film reflects his broader scholarly work on the archaeology and history of the Revolutionary era, including his recent co-editorship of "The Archaeology of the American Revolution."
The documentary premiered March 26 at the Garden State Film Festival and later won best Home Grown Documentary Feature. It was directed by Adam Worth, a Monmouth University communication alumnus who also served as cinematographer and editor. Worth is a five-time New York Emmy Award winner whose work spans documentary, television, commercial and narrative film production.
The documentary is the third in a trilogy he has made for Monmouth County, following films on Super Storm Sandy and the county's experience in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
"Monmouth County at War: Rebels, Raiders, and Revolution" is available on the MonmouthNJ250 YouTube channel.
