Hackster, an Avnet Community, has launched a new global competition in partnership with the EDGE AI Foundation: Edge AI Earth Guardians. This challenge invites engineers, developers and technologists to design edge AI solutions that address real-world environmental problems.

As climate change accelerates and biodiversity continues to decline, there is a growing need for intelligent, real-time systems that can operate in the field. The competition focuses on practical, low-power AI technologies that can be deployed at the edge to support wildlife protection, prevent deforestation, and monitor ecosystems. Suggested applications include anti-poaching systems, forest health diagnostics, and marine ecosystem tracking, though participants are encouraged to explore other creative and impactful ideas.

The competition is open to individuals and teams worldwide. A panel of expert judges, specialists in AI, sustainability, education, and open-source innovation, will evaluate submissions. The top five projects will receive prizes, including a $2,500 grand prize and a paid trip to Taiwan.

The contest is currently in the pre-registration phase. It officially opens on July 29, when participants will be able to apply for hardware and submit their proposals.

This is a chance to apply technical skills to urgent environmental challenges and contribute to real-world impact. Learn more and register at: https://www.hackster.io/contests/earthguardians.
