Richmond man to serve 13 years in state prison for child molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha today announced that a Richmond man has been sentenced in Washington County Superior Court to serve 13 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for multiple counts of child molestation.

On September 21, 2026, Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers sentenced Christopher Mitchell (age 54) to 30 years, with 13 years to serve at the ACI after he pleaded nolo contendere to two counts of first-degree child molestation. Additionally, Judge Rodgers issued a no contact order between the defendant and the victim, and ordered that the defendant register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender counseling, and be subject to community notification, lifetime community supervision, and lifetime GPS monitoring.

"This victim demonstrated immense courage in telling her story, and because she did so, this defendant received a lengthy sentence for his crimes," said Attorney General Neronha. "I hope that this outcome provides some measure of comfort to the victim and her family, and empowers others to come forward to pursue justice. I thank the Richmond Police Department for their partnership on this difficult case."

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between 2021 and 2025, the defendant sexually assaulted a female victim under the age of 14 who was known to him.

Assistant Attorney General Mark Trovato of the Attorney General's Office and Detective Adam Andrukiewicz of the Richmond Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of this case.
