TCM Unveils 2025 Programming Slate and Reveals Tributes, Awards and New Movies for Annual Film Festival

(New York, NY) - January 25, 2025 - Turner Classic Movies (TCM), the leading authority in classic film, unveiled today the themes, spotlights, and stars to be featured on the network, as well as the year's tentpole events and returning podcasts. Fans can look forward to 31 Days of Oscar®, the second iteration of Two-for-One films, Summer Under the Stars and celebrating monthly birthdays of the legends who made their mark on the industry.

This year's TCM Classic Film Festival will honor renowned writer, director and producer George Stevens Jr. with the esteemed Robert Osborne Award and pay tribute to award-winning filmmaker Michael Schultz.

Today, during the TCM Classic Film Festival: New York Pop-Up  x  92NY, it was announced that Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson will remain as stewards to TCM through 2025.

The day of programming at the Pop-up event began with Scorsese and TCM host Dave Karger discussing his storied career. Later in the afternoon, Drew Barrymore will join Jacqueline Stewart to introduce a screening of TWENTIETH CENTURY starring her grandfather John Barrymore. The evening will culminate when legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg and Barrymore join Karger for an illuminating conversation before a special presentation of E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, marking the first time they have reunited to discuss the classic film.

Below are additional details on TCM programming, podcasts and events in 2025:

Hosts Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone, Dave Karger, Jacqueline Stewart and Eddie Muller will continue to provide their unique insights into beloved classic films and interviews with a wide range of special guests.

2025 Programming Slate

Dave Karger returns on February 1 to host TCM's annual 31 Days of Oscar® celebrating Oscar-Worthy Performances, and films recognized by the Academy.

In April, brand new episodes of Two for One will return with prominent filmmakers co-hosting a double feature of their choice each Saturday night, hosted by Ben Mankiewicz. Special guests will include Joe Dante, Kathy Bates, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more.

As always, TCM will celebrate a different star every month, including Elvis Presley on what would have been his 90th birthday, Peter Sellers, Angela Lansbury, Rock Hudson, Paul Newman, Tony Curtis and Donald O'Connor on what would be their 100th birthdays, as well as Dick Van Dyke, on his 100th birthday in December. Other stars featured throughout the year include George Raft, Barbara Stanwyck, Red Skeleton, Mae West, Gary Cooper, and Merle Oberon.

Special themes that TCM will explore include Ladies of the 80s, Summer Romances, Faith in Film, Kid Fans, Black Women Filmmakers, Movie Confessions, Westerns, Horror, Imperialism, and key cultural celebrations including Asian American Pacific Islander Month, Pride Month and Hispanic Heritage Month.

Also, throughout the year, TCM will premiere brand new film restorations, including new original documentary film, BECOMING HITCHCOCK and more.

TCM Classic Film Festival

Movie lovers will once again descend upon Hollywood Boulevard for one-of-a-kind programming event themed "Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film" at the TCM Classic Film Festival on April 24 - April 27, 2025. Over four packed days and nights, attendees will be treated to an extensive lineup of great movies, appearances by legendary stars, panel discussions, special events, and more. The festival also welcomes George Stevens Jr.  as the Robert Osborne Award recipient, which recognizes an individual who has helped keep the cultural heritage of classic film alive for future generations. Stevens - a writer, director, producer, playwright, author, two-time Peabody Award recipient and Founding Director of the American Film Institute (AFI) - will be the sixth honoree to receive this award and will present the Hollywood premiere of the 4K restoration of GEORGE STEVENS: A FILMMAKER'S JOURNEY, the acclaimed film he wrote and directed about his Oscar winning father. Additionally, each year the event pays tribute to a select group of individuals whose work in Hollywood has left a lasting impact on film. This year's tributes will include filmmaker and producer Michael Schultz, with special presentations of CAR WASH (1976) and THE LAST DRAGON (1986). The festival's final tribute will be announced at a later date.

TCM Classic Cruise

Announced last fall, the TCM Classic Cruise will set sail from Port Canaveral, FL aboard the Disney Magic from October 8-13, 2025. The ship will travel to Nassau and Disney's newest island destination in the Bahamas, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Along with classic movies on the big screen, the TCM Classic Cruise welcomes a star-studded lineup of special guests, starting with TCM's own Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone, Dave Karger, Jacqueline Stewart and Eddie Muller. They will serve as hosts for engaging interviews with special talent still to be announced, hour-long conversations, and film introductions throughout the voyage.

Podcasts

Max and Turner Classic Movies continues their second season of Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast this month. TCM host Ben Mankiewicz joins filmmakers, actors, and cultural figures as they discuss their earliest film memories, favorite movies, creative influences, and guilty pleasures. Special guests include Bill Murray, Margot Robbie, Charles Barkley and Carol Burnett and more.

This summer, TCM's award-winning podcast The Plot Thickens will return for its sixth season. The fan-favorite podcast is an engaging way to explore Hollywood history, taking listeners behind the scenes of their favorite classic films or delving into the lives of Tinseltown's most alluring subjects. Previous seasons centered around John Ford, Peter Bogdanovich, Pam Grier, Lucille Ball, and the making of Brian DePalma's Bonfire of the Vanities.
