CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 17, 2025) - greeNest, an innovative organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families through safe and stable home environments, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Premier Cares Award and will receive a $100,000 cash prize from Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading technology-driven healthcare performance improvement company.
Sponsored by Premier and its alliance of more than 4,350 hospitals and health systems and approximately 300,000 other providers and organizations, the Premier Cares Award recognizes standalone community agencies and health organizations that are improving the lives of the medically underserved.
Founded with the mission of "transforming our community one nest at a time," greeNest operates the Up Off the Floor (UOF) program, which provides beds and portable cribs free of charge for children who don't have a bed of their own. In Forsyth County, North Carolina, where 20 percent of children under 18 experience poverty, greeNest is helping address critical health, educational and emotional challenges linked to inadequate sleep and unstable living conditions.
greeNest collaborates extensively with healthcare community partners, including Atrium Health/Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Population Health, Novant Health First Steps, Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency, Forsyth County Care Management for At-Risk Children, Trellis Supportive Care, Wake Forest School of Law Medical Legal Partnership Clinic, and many others. Children are referred into the bedding program by school officials or agency case managers supporting healthy families, including those aiding pregnant women, new mothers and victims of domestic abuse.
The impact of greeNest's work is clear: parents report better sleep for themselves and their children, teachers note increased alertness and engagement in the classroom, and children express feelings of safety and security in their own beds-sometimes for the very first time.
"Access to basic needs like a bed can make a life-changing difference in a child's health, education and emotional development," said Michael J. Alkire, President and CEO of Premier. "greeNest's innovative approach to tackling poverty's hidden impacts and social determinants of health exemplifies the spirit of the Premier Cares Award. We are proud to recognize and support their exceptional work to improve the lives of children and families in Forsyth County."
A panel of national healthcare leaders selects the Premier Cares Award winner each year. The program spotlights community-based healthcare initiatives and helps other organizations learn to replicate activities, as well as provides funding support to help winners advance their programs and services.
Premier and its predecessors have presented the Cares Award annually since 1991, when it was created by Monroe E. Trout, M.D., former CEO of American Healthcare Systems, one of Premier's heritage organizations. Award nominations are open to nonprofit organizations that have been in existence for more than two years, are providing creative solutions to health status improvement, can provide documentation of outcomes and impact on a specific population, and have programs that can be replicated in other communities.
greeNest will accept the Cares Award and the $100,000 cash prize on July 17, 2025, during the closing keynote session at Premier's annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition.
