A six-year-old partnership between Dominican University of California and Touro University California has already paved the way for six biology and chemistry students to further their education in either medical school or pharmacy school.
Scherina Chi '21, Edlyra Kate Romano '19, and Simon Chan '18 went from studying science at Dominican to studying for a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Genna Roan '22, Simi Lebetsamer '24, and Sophia Hull '24 are studying for a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree at Touro University California College of Pharmacy.
In addition, Rupprit Kaur '25 has enrolled in Touro's Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MSMHS).
The Dominican-to-Touro pipeline features a variety of options for Dominican undergraduate students interested in pursuing healthcare careers.
Dominican undergraduates and recent alumni can qualify for a guaranteed interview for potential admission to both the DO and the DPharm programs. Students interested in pursuing a Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences degree can qualify to receive guaranteed admission to the MSMHS program.
In addition, Dominican undergraduates can prepare for future careers in healthcare through the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) at Touro's campus in Vallejo. Last year, five Dominican undergraduates participated in the program. Participants receive career guidance from Touro staff, along with mentorship opportunities with Touro faculty and alumni. Participants also gain hands-on experiences, including experiential and clinical skills training and collaborative public health projects, as well as shadowing opportunities in medical and pharmacy settings. Students in the program may also qualify to receive a stipend from Touro.
