From Ice to Icebox, Winter Wow Freezes Cary Services for Another Day

  • Today's precipitation ranged from flakes to freezing rain and is expected to taper off tonight while frigid temps remain. Due to the forecast, Cary's A-Team is plowing primary streets and treating residential streets with salt/sand mix.
  • Staffed facilities, including Cary Town Hall and the Citizen's Convenience Center, are closed Monday for in-person services and programming is canceled. GoCary will not operate Monday.
  • This week's curbside collection is delayed one day due to weather.

Cary, NC - Winter Storm Fern remains active in our area, coating Cary in freezing rain, sleet and snow throughout the day and now into the late night. Cary's Emergency Operations Center remains activated, where over 400 staff, including the beloved A-Team, are working in coordination across departments to monitor and respond as conditions deteriorate. Cary's A-Team is plowing thoroughfares and primary streets within subdivisions, and treating remaining residential streets with salt/sand mix. Cary has 3,000 tons of salt and 400 tons of salt/sand mix to treat streets.

Cary treats streets in the following order: thoroughfares, followed by primary streets within subdivisions, then through streets in subdivisions, and then cul-de-sacs based on curbside collection routes. The Town does not treat private parking lots, including those in apartment and condominium complexes or at businesses and commercial centers.

Since Fern moved into our area, four weather-related crashes were reported, all with non-life-threatening injuries. Cary 311 had 5 weather-related non-emergency cases. There are minimal power outages affecting Cary.
