Port of San Diego Seeks Input to Shape Next Five Years of Maritime Clean Air Strategy Implementation

As part of its commitment to protecting the environment and reducing maritime emissions in portside communities, the Port of San Diego is hosting two community conversations this fall to seek input on next steps for its Maritime Clean Air Strategy (MCAS). The MCAS is a comprehensive plan adopted in 2021 to reduce emissions from maritime operations through electrification, zero-emission equipment, cleaner fuels, and stakeholder partnerships. The goal of the MCAS is to improve air quality and public health, especially in portside communities, while supporting sustainable port operations.

The Port has implemented 80% of the MCAS short-term objectives and is now engaging the community to help shape actions for the next five years.

The Port will host two community conversations in October and November to share progress and gather input from stakeholders on potential next steps. While the overall goals are set, input will be welcome on strategies and actions to help achieve them.

During the meetings, the MCAS project team and subject matter experts will give a brief overview of the MCAS, followed by an open Q&A and opportunities for participants to share input on further implementation.

The project team will use the community feedback received to refine the remaining objectives of the MCAS, which will be presented to the Board for further discussion and direction in 2026.
