Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) released the following statement:
"Congress has the constitutional authority to declare war, and Trump's reckless action in Iran has dangerously escalated tensions and put American lives at risk.
The Islamic Republic regime of Iran is the most prolific state sponsor of terrorism in the world, and must be stopped. The people of Iran have been tortured and murdered under their rule for decades.
The Trump administration, however, must make a clear case to the American people and Congress, including the national security objective, the role of our allies and surrounding nations in the region, and how U.S. troops will not be stuck in a prolonged war in the Middle East."
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She is Whip of the New Democrat Coalition, Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus, and is one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress.
