As Chair of Doctoral studies for EdD programs at William Woods as well as an Assistant Professor of Education, Frank Giuseffi wants to make sure everyone knows about how WWU's programs are preparing doctoral students for future challenges in education.
So, Giuseffi did what many others do in our information, social media-driven age: he started his own podcast.
"I knew that various online graduate programs were using social media to communicate their programs to a variety of audiences," said Giuseffi, who joined the faculty at William Woods in 2020 and previously received his master's in education in Curriculum and Instruction from WWU in 2006. "Consequently, I want to share the great work our EdD programs are doing with scholar-practitioners, educationists, and those who are particularly interested in earning a Doctor of Education degree."
The result is "My EdD Story," the podcast Giuseffi established that began late last month. "My EdD Story" can be found in a Spotify account, so anyone who listens to Spotify can find it there. In addition to his busy summer months, where Giuseffi is working on EdD course content, curriculum development, and reading dissertations, he is also making time to meet his goal of uploading a podcast recording on Spotify every month to circulate the EdD programs to various communities.
"I want it to be an informative podcast that highlights our EdD programs," said Giuseffi, who normally will be recording his podcast sessions, with the great help of Tony Weed, Associate Provost and Associate Professor of Communication, in the Broadcast studio on campus. "To highlight our programs, we interview recent graduates, doctoral students taking coursework or involved in the dissertation writing process, and professors and dissertation chairs who effectively guide our students toward academic success. The interviews will cover a variety of topics - recent dissertation studies, effective school leadership, meaningful instruction, and compelling educational philosophies."
Clearly, Giuseffi has much to sell about the William Woods EdD program, which contributes to The Woods having an outsized impact on school leaders in the state of Missouri. More than 600 William Woods graduates are currently serving as principals and assistant principals across the state, with more than 150 graduates who are now school district administrators and nearly 100 who are now serving as school superintendents. The WWU School of Education, and the EdD program in particular, have been highly rated nationally for years. So, what does Giuseffi hope to ultimately accomplish with My EdD Story?
"To create a space where people interested in a doctoral degree in Education can listen to conversations about the outstanding work professors and students are doing in WWU's EdD Programs."
Sounds like My EdD Story certainly has a compelling story to tell. Catch it now on Spotify!
