RDNO Urges Residents to Remain Vigilant Amid Elevated Wildfire Risk

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is reminding all residents to remain vigilant and prepared as current weather and environmental conditions continue to create an elevated risk of wildfire throughout the region.

While emergency personnel and partner agencies are actively monitoring conditions and responding where required, wildfire risk remains a shared responsibility. The RDNO has fully engaged available resources and Fire Departments to support emergency preparedness, emergency operations, and public safety efforts. However, residents are encouraged to take proactive steps to ensure they are ready should conditions change rapidly.

"Safety remains our highest priority," said Shirley Fowler, Chair of the RDNO Board of Directors. "During periods of hot, dry, and windy weather, wildfires can develop and spread quickly, as we are seeing currently in our neighboring communities. We are asking all residents to have their go-bag ready, stay alert, and ensure their households are ready to respond quickly if an emergency occurs."

The RDNO encourages residents to take the following preparedness measures:

• Prepare a grab-and-go bag with essential items, including medications, important documents, clothing, personal identification, mobile phone chargers, and supplies for pets.
• Create and review a family emergency plan so everyone in your household knows what to do, where to go, and how to stay connected during an emergency.
• Stay informed through trusted sources for the latest information, alerts, and instructions.
• Monitor official emergency notifications and be prepared to act quickly if an Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order is issued.

Residents are reminded to rely on official sources for accurate and timely information, including:

• Local government and emergency management agencies
