UMass Chan Medical School chancellor search committee established to lead national search for new chancellor

BOSTON - A distinguished and broadly representative group of health care professionals, UMass faculty, business leaders, community stakeholders, and alumni, have been appointed by UMass Board of Trustees Chairman Stephen Karam and UMass President Marty Meehan to lead a comprehensive search for the next chancellor of UMass Chan Medical School.

UMass Trustee David Brunelle, a Worcester area resident and co-founder and managing director of North Pointe Wealth Management, agreed to chair the search committee. The 20-member committee will hold its first public meeting today, September 17, 2025 at 3 pm.

The search committee will seek input from a wide range of university stakeholders, including community leaders, students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the coming months. The committee will develop a competitive pool of candidates to submit to President Meehan, who will then make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

UMass Chan is a world-class medical school and research institution, which counts two Nobel laureates among its faculty; attracts more than $350 million annually in research funding; and consistently produces notable advances in clinical and basic research. The next chancellor will succeed Dr. Michael Collins, who announced in June he will step down from his role at the end of this academic year after serving as chancellor of UMass Chan Medical School for nearly 20 years.

The search committee includes department chairs from UMass Chan Medical School, faculty members, senior university leaders, members of the business community, healthcare professionals, UMass Chan alumni, UMass Trustees, and community stakeholders.
