Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for H.Con.Res.38, a bipartisan war powers resolution to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran after President Trump authorized a strike against Iranthat resulted in the death of servicemembers. While two Republicans joined Democrats to support the resolution, the vote failed on the House floor.
"Congress has the sole authority to declare war, not the President," said Larson. "Trump continues to have a disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law, and six servicemembers have already died as a result of this attack. We continue to demand that President Trump come before Congress, as he is required by the Constitution. He owes it to Congress, the American people, and the troops who have died and their families to answer for his actions and be held accountable. For someone who said he would end wars across the globe, he has only gotten the U.S. further involved in entanglements that have cost soldiers their lives and left Americans stranded across the Middle East."
In January, Larson voted to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities with Venezuelaafter Trump authorized operations there without prior Congressional approval. Larson also voted against the Iraq War in 2002.
