ABU-Rai Days 2025 event highlights ABU members innovation and creativity

This year's ABU-Rai Days event showcased the range and depth of expertise across the ABU membership in producing innovative and engaging children's media content.

Ms Ida Ayu Putu Widya Indah Sari, Producer of RRI Bali's Dunia Anak, a radio show focused on preserving Balinese culture, spoke about balancing education and information with fun. This balance was also emphasised by Ms Veronica Milsom, Executive Producer of Children's Audio at the ABC, when discussing the success of her team's productions.

The Japan Prize, an international competition celebrating the power of media for education, is marking its 52nd anniversary. Mr Hitoshi Furukawa, Deputy Secretary-General of the Japan Prize, gave an overview of its rich history.

Mr Jinsu Shin, Commissioning Editor and Producer at EBS, shared how his team integrates technology in their new programme Hangeul Warrior, which combines animation with live action.

In a digital literacy session, Mrs Ismihan Yilmaz, Director of TRT ÇOCUK, explained how TRT has established a Parental Academy to help parents deal with the challenges they face in parenting. A dedicated WhatsApp channel also allows them to receive immediate feedback from parents on new content.

Mr Allamyrat Archayev, Head of International Relations at the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Television, Radiobroadcasting and Cinematography, shared how they mark International Child Protection Day each 1 June with two prime-time TV shows promoting children's rights. This year's shows were co-produced with UNICEF, which activated digital communication channels as part of the partnership.

Finally, regulation remains a key topic in children's media. Mr Suranga B. M. Jalyalath, former Chair of the ABU IPLC and Legal Affairs Director at CMG Sri Lanka, highlighted how Australia, Singapore and India - are approaching this topic.
