October Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

​The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture and Natural Resources programs for October 2026. These programs are being offered by Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent Kevin Korus.

Pesticide Safety Education for Natural Areas Weed Management - Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Extension Office - Alachua County (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).

Up to eight Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available in the following categories: Two General Standard Core and six Natural Areas Weed Management.

8 a.m. - Pesticide Laws/Regulations and Pesticides in the Environment
8:50 a.m. - The Worker Protection Standard and Pest Identification
9:40 a.m. - Herbicide Chemistry, Formulation, Mode of Action and Weed Biology
10:30 a.m. - Break
10:40 a.m. - Pesticide Arithmetic and Understanding the Label
11:30 a.m. - Lunch Provided
12:30 p.m. - Pesticide Arithmetic (cont.)
1:20 p.m. - Plant Identification
3 p.m. - Calibrating Application Equipment
3:50 p.m. - Adjourn

The registration fee is $25 (plus a $3.52 Eventbrite fee) and includes lunch and class materials. Participants must register online by Oct. 7. The class is limited to 18 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.

27th Annual Livestock & Forages Field Day - Oct. 27, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Santa Fe River Ranch (29220 NW 122 St., Alachua).

The field day will feature equipment and livestock demonstrations, as well as presentations from UF/IFAS specialists and county agents. Topics include deworming and vaccination protocols, alternative feed options for beef cattle, stages of nutritional needs for livestock and establishing forages.

Participants can register online. Cost is $20 (plus $3.18 Eventbrite fee) and includes lunch. The registration fee will be $40 if paying on the day of the event. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.
