Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon recently announced the receipt of a grant award in the amount of $350,528.22 from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to provide a secure and accurate method of electronic transmission of conviction data from Georgia courts to the State within ten days of adjudication as required by law, and to train and educate courts on the GECPS system for this purpose. The grant funds a training coordinator and a court auditor, as well as a web contractor for updates and maintenance, training, audits and data analysis of the GECPS reporting portal.
"With the continued support of GOHS, DDS can strengthen the oversight and advancement of the GECPS program, ensuring Georgia's citation processing system remains accurate, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our communities," said DDS Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon.
"Innovative projects like this are designed with the intent for Georgia and our nation to reach the realistic goal of zero traffic deaths by the middle of this century," said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). "Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable."
GECPS requires Georgia's more than 902 courts to submit convictions in a standard format and then correct and resubmit any convictions containing errors. In recent years, the GECPS program has undergone a massive modernization process, largely due to funding awarded through GOHS. This has contributed to improving the 83.08% citation acceptance rate in 2013 to having a current acceptance rate well over 97%.
