The USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oregon announces funding available for farmers, ranchers and forest landowners in Polk County to enhance and restore oak habitat and associated wildlife on private lands in the area. Interested applicants should apply by June 4, 2026.
NRCS and project partners hope to assist landowners with restoring forest stands to healthier stocking rates, building more resilient species composition, and eliminating current insect infestations to improve the health and resistance ability of the trees remaining. The project also aims to add increased wildlife forage and unobstructed travel between neighboring counties. Examples of available conservation practices include forest stand improvement, woody residue treatment, obstruction removal, wildlife habitat planting and herbaceous weed treatment. Funding for the project is available through the USDA NRCS's Regional Conservation Partnership Program.
Key project partners include Polk Soil and Water Conservation District, US Fish and Wildlife Partner's Program, Institute for Applied Ecology, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board Small Grant Team, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Office.
