UAA Google and Microsoft 365 storage limits starting Oct. 1

On Oct. 1, 2026, storage limits will be applied to UAA-affiliated Google Accounts. Further information will be published by the Systems Office of Information Technology (OIT), but here's the known impact on UAA:

UAA Students will be limited to 5GB total of Google Storage.

  • Applies to current and future UAA students.
  • Includes Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and other Google Workspace services.
  • Includes Microsoft 365.

UAA staff and faculty will be limited to 20GB total of Google Storage.

  • Applies to faculty and staff accounts created on or after October 1, 2026.
  • Existing UAA faculty and staff will be granted an exemption for the academic year. ITS will phase in overage charges beginning in early 2027. More information on costs and implmentation phases will be annouced this fall.
  • Includes Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and other Google Workspace services.
  • Includes Microsoft 365.

Other account types will have storage based on OIT's published limits. Additionally:

  • ITS will be developing a request based method to allow departments to purchase extra storage for employees and emeritus faculty in the near future.
  • UAA will review its policies annually and may modify the limits during the review.

Some policies are still under development by OIT and will be forthcoming.
