Governor Stein Highlights NC College Connect at Emsley A. Laney Public High School

Today Governor Josh Stein visited Emsley A. Laney Public High School in Wilmington to share how the NC College Connect program is opening pathways to higher education for students throughout the state. Through the NC College Connect program, every high school senior with a 2.8 GPA or higher is directly admitted to certain North Carolina colleges and universities, and all seniors on track to graduate are directly admitted to their local community college.

"The college application process can be intimidating. By automatically offering college acceptances to qualified students, NC College Connect makes the process easy so students can focus on making the right choice for them," said Governor Josh Stein. "North Carolina students are worth investing in, and connecting them to the right two- or four-year college helps set them up for success."

Last year, more than 23,000 North Carolina seniors accepted direct college admission offers through NC College Connect. The higher a North Carolina public high school senior's GPA is, the more colleges where that student may be eligible to receive direct admission - exempting those students from submitting traditional application materials like essays, recommendation letters, and activity lists.
