Both Matea and Kayla were awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Youth Leadership Award and the Military Order of the World Wars Certificate of Recognition

In a ceremony of great significance, LTC Walleon Bobo of Memphis presented both Matea and Kayla with the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Youth Leadership Award.

This rare and honorable award was bestowed "For Meritorious and Demonstrated Leadership in Service to Our Nation and Your Community" - a true testament to their unwavering character, patriotism, and commitment to excellence.

Matea was honored with this distinguished award for her inspiring service project entitled 'Reconstruction of the Coyote Café,' which transformed a space at her school into a welcoming haven for individuals facing mental health challenges, offering comfort and support throughout the school day, especially during the often-overlooked lunch period.

Kayla received this distinguished award for her project entitled, 'Little Beats for Little Feet,' where she designed and built musical instruments to foster not only the cognitive and motor skill development of young children, but also to encourage connection, creativity, and the joy of friendship through shared musical experiences.

"It is my honor to present to Matea and to Kayla our official congratulations on behalf of the City Council and the City of Clarksville for your awards, and to say thank you, not just for what you have done to help others, but for what you're about to do in your futures. We look forward to it," said Mayor Joe Pitts.

During the presentation, Matea took time to thank their scout leaders, who also happen to be the two girl's mothers.

"I really want to thank you two because you have supported us through all of this, through the crying, the anxiety, the stress, us stressing you out," said Matea. "You are our troop leaders, and most importantly our mothers, so thank you."
