WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement on Congressional Republicans' ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security because of their refusal to support ICE guardrails. Senator Rosen also reaffirmed her commitment to fighting for reforms to rein in ICE's abuses of power that have resulted in the killing of two U.S. citizens this year.
"Like the overwhelming majority of Americans, I've been horrified by the overly aggressive behavior and violence committed by ICE at the direction of the Trump Administration. This has shamefully led to Americans and law-abiding immigrants being targeted and in some cases killed," said Senator Rosen. "We need increased accountability for ICE to stop these abuses of power, but Washington Republicans would rather have the entire Department of Homeland Security shut down than put guardrails on ICE. It's up to Republicans in Congress to decide whether they'll work with us to rein in ICE's out-of-control behavior or continue their DHS shutdown to block any reforms."
