USDA Publishes $500,000 Funding Opportunity to Boost Biofertilizer Exports to Vietnam and Open Markets for U.S. Farmers

Washington, D.C., August 4, 2026 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is now accepting applications for a $500,000 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) designed to open new export pathways for innovative U.S. biofertilizer products.

FAS invites American universities, agricultural trade associations, and non-profit organizations to apply for this technical assistance funding to:

  1. Evaluate crop yields and reductions in nitrogen leaching in the U.S. and Vietnam using U.S. manufactured biofertilizers such as liquid fish fertilizer.
  2. Shape Vietnam's national guidelines for fertilizer management by providing technical input on microbial coatings and innovative, higher-efficiency alternatives to synthetic fertilizers.
  3. Send U.S. organic rice farmers on an outreach tour to Vietnam to share how they use U.S.-manufactured biofertilizers to reduce nitrogen leaching and maintain crop yields.
  4. Track growth of Vietnam imports for at least three U.S.-manufactured fertilizer enhancement products and biofertilizers.
