The University School for Young Children (USYC) at Southeast Missouri State University has earned the "Demonstrating Quality" designation through Missouri's Quality Assurance Report (QAR), recognizing the program's commitment to high-quality early childhood education.
The QAR, led by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is a voluntary statewide initiative designed to support continuous improvement in early learning and education programs. Participating programs receive coaching, professional development opportunities, classroom assessments, and other resources aimed at strengthening teacher-child interactions and learning environments.
To earn the "Demonstrating Quality" designation, programs must meet standards related to classroom interactions, operational practices, and responsive teaching practices.
"This recognition reflects the dedication and care our teachers bring to the classroom every day," said Kimberly Rueseler, interim director of USYC. "Our staff works hard to create engaging, nurturing, and supportive learning experiences for every child and family we serve, and we are proud to have those efforts recognized at the state level."
The designation highlights USYC's commitment to fostering high-quality educational experiences for young learners while maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
Representatives from Missouri's QAR program will formally present the designation during a ceremony at 1 p.m. May 15 at the University School for Young Children. Faculty, staff, families, university leadership, and QAR representatives will attend the event, including Stacey Hicks.
USYC serves as both an early childhood learning center and a hands-on learning environment for students in SEMO's education programs, providing opportunities for experiential learning and observation in a high-quality classroom setting.
The University School for Young Children continues to serve as a model for early learning excellence while preparing future educators through immersive, experience-based learning opportunities. Learn more at semo.edu/usyc.
