Vance on Apologizing to Alex Pretti’s Family: “For What?” Arrow

In an interview with the Daily Mail published this morning, JD Vance refused to apologize to the family of Alex Pretti after he spread lies that Pretti was "a would-be assassin."

In the interview, Vance said he would not engage in a "hypothetical" and "conjecture" about the federal immigration agents who shot and killed Pretti - even though Vance and Stephen Miller immediately smeared the victim after he was killed, calling him a "domestic terrorist" who "intended to massacre law enforcement" and saying what happened was a consequence of "far left agitators, working with local authorities." When asked if he would apologize for amplifying this false narrative, Vance responded: "For what?"

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"JD Vance is shameless. Donald Trump, Vance, Stephen Miller, and Kristi Noem immediately smeared an innocent American after he was shot and killed by federal immigration agents - and they refuse to take responsibility or even apologize. The American people, including the families of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, deserve better from our leaders. Vance's callousness and smug dismissal are outrageous. The public is not on his side for the reckless and cruel campaign he and Trump are waging on American communities."

Support for Donald Trump's cruel deportation campaign has plummeted. 59% of voters in a Fox News poll said ICE has been too aggressive in its deportation efforts, a 10-point increase from July. In a Reuters/Ipsos survey, 58% said the ICE crackdown has gone too far. 55% in an Economist/YouGov survey said they have "very little" confidence in ICE, a 10-point increase from December and an 18-point increase among independents. And Trump's approval on what was once his best issue has dropped significantly. Only 39% approve of Trump's handling of immigration, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, down from 50% last February.
