Apply to be a Provost’s Teaching Scholar

The Boise State Provost's Teaching Scholars program recognizes instructors' commitment to ongoing professional development around teaching. Honorees have demonstrated their skills in the three components of effective teaching: well-structured instructional design, the use of instructional strategies that actively engage students and support learning, and a commitment to continuous improvement through reflective practice.

Students who take courses from Boise State Provost's Teaching Scholars can expect:

  • A course whose design was guided by learning outcomes, where assignments are authentic and offer students choices, and where these assessments measure student achievement of the learning outcomes.
  • A course where they actively engage in a variety of ways with course content and one another, where feedback is learning-focused, and where learning activities and instructional materials support them in achieving the learning outcomes.
  • That their instructor regularly reflects on their teaching practice, that they collect evidence from a variety of sources and make changes to their courses based on what they learned, and that they are willing to adapt their courses as needed in support of student learning.

Ready to join Boise State's most recognized teaching community? Apply to become a Provost's Teaching Scholar and gain recognition for a commitment to innovative course design, active student engagement, and continuous improvement.

Jennifer Mallette of the Department of English is the first Provost's Teaching Scholar, earning the designation in 2025.
