11/13/2024 - Next Week Two Planned Intersection Closures to Facilitate Oversized Truck Movement at Eastbay Dr and Olympia Ave NE

Two Planned Intersection Closures for Oversized Truck Movement
The intersections of Eastbay Dr. NE and Olympia Ave NE, will be closed for approximately 30 minutes around Midnight on Sunday, November 17, and again on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, into the early hours of the following days to facilitate the movement of an oversized truck which is used to carry large/heavy equipment. This type of scenario is called a "Superload."

The "Superload" truck is anticipated to leave the Port of Olympia between 10 - 11 p.m. on Sunday November 17, and again on Wednesday, November 20. The truck will slowly travel using Marine Drive turning onto Olympia Ave NE. The intersection and portions of East Bay Dr. and Olympia Ave NE will be closed to facilitate the turning movements of the truck anticipated to occur around Midnight lasting approximately 30 minutes. Once clear of the intersection, the truck will slowly proceed on Eastbay Dr. as the road transitions to Plum Street making its way to the southbound on-ramp to I-5. Olympia Police Department will be onsite for the intersection closure and will escort the truck to the freeway. Once on the freeway, Washington State Patrol will take over escorting the truck to its destination in Centralia.

Signage and the Olympia Police Department will be onsite for the closures. Although the closure will only occur for about 30 minutes, the slow movement of the truck will additionally impact traffic until it reaches the freeway. Please avoid this area if at all possible.

This will be the last of the planned closures for the purpose of the "Superload".
