Clean-Up Efforts Expand Along Route 66 for Upcoming Centennial Celebrations
The City of Tulsa is calling on volunteers to participate in the 2026 Great Tulsa Clean-Up, which is an annual volunteer event held every spring to protect Tulsa's waterways and green spaces.
The annual event mobilizes hundreds of volunteers across the city to remove waste and debris from parks, public areas and illegal dumping sites. This year features 17 new clean-up locations along Route 66 in honor of the centennial year for The Mother Road.
Volunteer registrations are now open and volunteers can choose days and times that work best for them to start cleaning up in April.
"Volunteer efforts for The Great Tulsa Clean Up have a direct impact on Tulsa's waterways and wildlife," said Skyler Robson, stormwater quality manager for the City of Tulsa. "Our team manages and monitors 30 watersheds, 40 species of native fish, and 180 macroinvertebrates. By adding more cleanup locations along Route 66 this year, we hope to see an even bigger positive impact on our streams and wildlife."
Cleanup supplies will be provided at each site, and participants are encouraged to wear closed toe shoes and bring water. Volunteers will also receive a free T-shirt.
The cleanup is open to individuals, families, teams, associations or businesses.
