On 25-27 May 2026, a business seminar "Entering Foreign Markets: Opportunities for Business in Central Asia - Uzbekistan" was held in Shanghai, China. The seminar was organized by the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute jointly with the Shanghai National Institute of Accounting. The event brought together representatives of international organizations, financial institutions, and business circles.
In the opening remarks Lu Wenbin, President of the Shanghai National Institute of Accounting, noted that Central Asia has become one of the key areas of international cooperation for Chinese companies. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan, as an important economic and logistics hub of the region, has been creating favorable conditions for foreign investors and the development of business partnerships.
Li Keqing, Deputy Director of the CAREC Institute, highlighted the rising importance of the Central Asia as a promising destination for investment, the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, and regional connectivity.
Batyr Tursunov, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, noted that Central Asia, as the "core" of the SCO, is now one of the most dynamically developing regions in the world.
Special attention was paid to the socio-economic development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, measures to improve the investment climate, digitalization, and support of entrepreneurship. It was emphasized that the country is becoming one of the key trade and economic partners of the SCO member states and an important logistics hub of Eurasia.
It was noted that the initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan during the Tianjin SCO Summit in 2025, aimed at strengthening trade and economic connectivity, developing transport and logistics corridors, digital cooperation, and ties between the business communities of the member states, reflect the aspiration to shape a sustainable cooperation space within the SCO.
