The westbound fast lane of Interstate 64 across the Fort Hill Bridge will reopen at about 3 p.m. to relieve congestion on the bridge during rush hour.
West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) bridge crews have had the westbound fast lane and center lane closed to patch a three-by-three-foot hole in the bridge deck. The eastbound fast lane is also closed on the bridge to allow a boom truck access to the underside of the bridge.
Bridge crews will reopen the fast lane to relieve congestion during rush hour and place a steel plate over the hole in the westbound center lane as a safety precaution. Once rush hour traffic has diminished, crews will close the westbound fast lane again to complete pouring concrete to patch the hole.
The eastbound fast lane will remain closed to allow continued access to the boom truck.
The westbound center lane will remain closed for much of the day on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to allow the concrete to cure.
The bridge is scheduled to have the entire deck replaced in 2027. In the meantime, the WVDOH plans to conduct preventative patching across the bridge over the next few weeks to patch any trouble areas that may become problems in the near future. This fall, the WVDOH will award a contract for more extensive patching, followed by installation of a protective membrane on the bridge. Then contractors will lay an asphalt overlay to protect the span until the redecking project can be awarded.
