Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao Meets with UN Secretary-General’s New Special Representative on the Cyprus Problem

On November 10, 2025, Ambassador Liu Yantao met with Mr. Khassim Diagne, UN Secretary-General's new special representative on the Cyprus problem and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). They had an in-depth and friendly exchange of views on the Cyprus problem.

Ambassador Liu congratulated Mr. Diagne on his assumption of office and expressed China's full support for the work of the United Nations in promoting a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation. He commended UNFICYP for its important contribution to peace and stability on the island and reaffirmed China's readiness to continue contributing to the peace process in Cyprus.

Mr. Diagne commended China's important role in UN peacekeeping affairs and expressed his willingness to maintain close communication with China to jointly promote an early settlement of the Cyprus problem.
