City Activates Cooling Centers at the Simi Valley Senior Center and Library

With high temperatures expected over the next several days, the City of Simi Valley is opening air-conditioned cooling centers to help people stay cool and safe. In response to excessive heat advisories, designated facilities may extend hours beyond normal operations to better serve the community.

The Simi Valley Senior Center, located at 3900 Avenida Simi, has extended its hours to serve as an official cooling center on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Simi Valley Transit will also run extended service until 8:00 p.m. on both days to help residents access the Center, including those needing ADA-accessible service.

The Simi Valley Public Library, located at 2969 Tapo Canyon Road, will also be available during regular hours. The Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Community members who are more vulnerable to the heat, including older adults, those with health conditions, or anyone experiencing a temporary power outage, are encouraged to take advantage of these locations.

During periods of extreme heat, the public is encouraged to take simple precautions:

  • Stay informed by checking updates through the National Weather Service.
  • Never leave children or pets in enclosed vehicles.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, even if you are not thirsty, and avoid alcohol or caffeine.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Limit outdoor activity and avoid strenuous exercise. Take frequent breaks if outdoors.
  • Check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially those more vulnerable to heat.
  • Make sure pets have water, shade, and are not experiencing heat stress.
