Narrative:

Sheriff Daniel E Abbott reports that two subjects are in custody and there are others facing charges after Deputies were involved in a pursuit with a stolen vehicle that stemmed from an investigation into a burglary of multiple storage units in Bloomingdale township.

On 12/27/2024 at 10:15 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to a storage unit facility in Bloomingdale township for a report of multiple units being broken into 4 hours prior. During the course of the investigation it was determined that a 2005 Jeep Wrangler was stolen along with a significant amount of other personal property. After taking the initial complaint Deputies began checking the surrounding areas and were able to locate the Jeep at a residence in the 13 thousand block of 49th St in Columbia Township. The Jeep was occupied by one subject who refused orders from Deputies and fled in the vehicle. Deputies pursued the vehicle through Columbia and Bangor Townships for approximately 20 minutes until the Jeep became disabled and stuck in a field. The suspect, a 32 year old male from Kalamazoo, fled on foot and attempted to hide in a barn on the property. He was located by Deputies and taken into custody without further incident. During his arrest Deputies located methamphetamine in his possession.

After that subject was in custody Deputies returned to the address on 49th st where they drafted and executed a search warrant for other stolen property. During the search they located property from the storage units as well as a camper trailer that had been reported stolen out of Kalamazoo. Deputies conducted multiple interviews and were able to establish probable cause to arrest a 45 year old male from the Bloomingdale area for his role in the burglary. Reports are being reviewed by the prosecutors office for possible charges on other subjects that were located and interviewed at that residence as well.
