DSCC’s Mission Park receives update

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Defense Supply Center Columbus' Mission Park recently received a 'facelift,' to keep the park fresh and presentable for years to come. DLA Installation Management - Columbus took the opportunity to add a few coats of fresh paint on the vehicles and placards were cleaned and updated. A new sign was added reminding people using the park of why it was established.

Mission Park opened in 2015 and offers examples of equipment that DLA Land and Maritime supports. Winding through the park is a walking and exercise trail for all to enjoy.

DLA Land and Maritime Deputy Commander Kenneth Watson said that passing the park as he makes his way to and from work fills him with a tremendous sense of pride in the DLA mission, supporting the men and women who serve.

"It reminds me of both the vital national security mission that we have the privilege to support, and more importantly, the people who operationalize it," he said. "So much of what we do can be difficult for many who aren't a part of our daily business to fully comprehend. But what is almost universally understood is that the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guardians who operate those systems, many of them in harm's way, are depending on us. Mission Park makes that tangible."

Refreshing the park was a group effort between DLA Installation Management - Columbus and DLA Land and Maritime's People Support and Culture Division, aligning with DLA's new Strategic Plan, which identifies 'people' as one of four transformative imperatives to provide DLA with its focus moving forward.

"Updating the park contributes to the wellbeing of employees who use and see it daily," said James McGarvey, a management and program analyst with DLA Land and Maritime People Support and Culture. "The park offers a quiet respite for busy days as well as a hub for seasonal installation activities."

McGarvey added that People Support and Culture will begin offering tours of the park for new employees in conjunction with the New Employee Orientation later this year.
