White Oak Creek Greenway Remains Closed for Structure Assessments

• A portion of White Oak Creek Greenway between Green Level Church Road and I-540 remains closed while Cary conducts a thorough assessment of boardwalk structures.
• The affected portion of the greenway will remain closed until further notice while staff complete inspections, assess conditions, evaluate repair options, and determine next steps. Cary is also inspecting nearby boardwalk structures along White Oak Creek Greenway.
• There is no practical detour around the closure. Trail users should plan alternate routes and be mindful of a separate Wake County closure on the adjoining American Tobacco Trail.

CARY, NC - A portion of Cary's White Oak Creek Greenway between Green Level Church Road and I-540 remains closed while Cary conducts a thorough assessment of boardwalk structures. Staff are inspecting the structures to better understand their condition and determine what work may be needed.

The affected portion of White Oak Creek Greenway will remain closed until further notice while Cary completes inspections, assesses conditions, evaluates repair options, and develops a plan for next steps. A reopening timeline will be determined after the assessment and planning process is complete.

Cary is also inspecting nearby boardwalk structures along White Oak Creek Greenway and will share information about any additional impacts as more is known.

While there is no practical detour around the White Oak Creek Greenway closure, trail users should stay out of the closed area and plan an alternate route. The closure prevents through travel along White Oak Creek Greenway toward its regional connection with the American Tobacco Trail (ATT). Trail users looking to access the ATT may use the following trailheads north of White Oak Creek Greenway:

• White Oak Church Road Trailhead: 1305 White Oak Church Road
• New Hope Church Road Trailhead Park: 2575 New Hope Church Road

A separate Wake County closure on the adjoining American Tobacco Trail begins today, September 2. The connection between White Oak Creek Greenway and the ATT remains open, but the ATT will be closed from the Wimberly Road parking area to the White Oak Creek Greenway entrance while crews repair landslide damage from Hurricane Helene in 2024. The Wimberly Road parking area will also be closed, and parking along the shoulder of Wimberly Road is not permitted.
