American Cancer Society Announces Transformational $25 Million Naming Gift from Kimberly Duchossois and Family for Hope Lodge Chicago

CHICAGO - Sept. 24, 2026 - The American Cancer Society today announced a transformational $25 million gift from Kim Duchossois and her family to support the development of the future Beverly and Richard Duchossois Hope Lodge Chicago. The gift represents a major milestone in the effort to bring a Hope Lodge community to Chicago, ensuring cancer patients and their caregivers have access to a free place to stay while receiving lifesaving treatment far from home. The donation is the largest philanthropic commitment to the project to date and reflects a deeply personal commitment to supporting cancer patients and caregivers.

"We lost my mother to cancer at just 57. Though my father faced cancer later in life, he thankfully managed to reach his 100^th birthday. It is an immense privilege to honor them both in this significant way. Nearly 20 years ago, I had the opportunity to visit several Hope Lodges with a small group of Chicago-area ACS supporters. At the time, we excitedly imagined the day that we might bring this needed resource to our own city," said Duchossois. "It is extremely gratifying to see this dream finally coming to fruition and to witness the meaningful partnerships forged in order to better care for and accommodate cancer patients and their caregivers. I sincerely hope others will recognize the importance of having this invaluable resource in our own city of world renown comprehensive cancer centers and join us in support of Hope Lodge Chicago."

The family's contribution brings the campaign significantly closer to its approximately $82 million fundraising goal, building on commitments already secured through support from the University of Chicago Medicine, Rush University System for Health, and other philanthropic and community partners.

"This extraordinary gift from Kim Duchossois and her family is a significant milestone for Hope Lodge Chicago," said Shane Jacobson, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society. "Her generosity sends a powerful message to every family facing cancer: you do not have to face this journey alone. The investment helps remove barriers to care and will make it possible for more patients and caregivers have access to the support, community, and free lodging they need while receiving treatment away from home."

When completed, Hope Lodge Chicago will help patients and caregivers save out-of-pocket expenses by providing thousands of nights of free lodging annually. In addition to private guest accommodations, the facility will offer communal spaces designed to foster connection, encouragement and support among guests experiencing similar cancer journeys.

Plans for the facility also include a wellness and support hub that will provide resources for the surrounding community. People living with cancer inside or outside the building will have access to services focused on nutrition, physical activity, stress management and social connection. The new lodge will join a nationwide network of 31 American Cancer Society Hope Lodge facilities that provides free lodging to more than 36,000 cancer patients and caregivers each year, saving more than $85 million in lodging costs.
