Risk and Emergency Management for Documentary Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean

UNESCO invites participants to join the upcoming webinar "Risk and Emergency Management for Documentary Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean", a space dedicated to exploring how to strengthen the protection of the region's documentary memory.

The session is organized by the Regional Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Memory of the World Programme (MoWLAC), in cooperation with the Caribbean Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (CARBICA).

It is aimed at memory institutions interested in building capacities for emergency and disaster management, as well as in designing risk protocols tailored to their documentary heritage.

The event will take place on May 28, 2026 via Zoom (9:00 a.m. Mexico City, 10:00 a.m. Kingston, 12:00 p.m. Montevideo) and will feature international experts in preservation and emergency response for documentary heritage.

The opening session will be led by regional representatives from UNESCO and specialized networks in archives and heritage, followed by a technical workshop on risk management, including practical tools and an interactive exchange with participants.

This initiative is part of UNESCO's ongoing efforts to strengthen the resilience of institutions safeguarding documentary heritage in the face of increasing threats, promoting its protection as a fundamental component of the identity, history, and knowledge of peoples.

Interested participants can register in advance and submit inquiries through the MoWLAC Secretariat: [email protected].
