Texas Health Fort Worth Recognized for Commitment to High-Quality Cardiovascular and Stroke Care

FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth has earned the American Heart Association's inaugural Commitment to Quality award for achieving high marks in three or more 2025 Get With The Guidelines® clinical areas. Texas Health Fort Worth is the only facility in Tarrant County to earn the recognition and just one of 158 facilities nationally.

The new award is part of the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines program, which recognizes achieving specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and cardiovascular patients during a set time period. Texas Health Fort Worth earned the following awards:

  • Get With The Guidelines - Coronary Artery Disease Gold Plus (STEMI)
  • Get With The Guidelines - Coronary Artery Disease Gold (NSTEMI)
  • Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus with Advanced Therapy
  • Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure Gold Plus with Target: Heart Failure Optimal
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

"Earning the American Heart Association's newest award exemplifies our commitment to providing exceptional patient care with compassion by all involved - from the physicians on the medical staff to nurses to each and every hospital employee," said Jared Shelton, FACHE, Texas Health Fort Worth president. "It's also another testament to how those dedicated individuals collaborate seamlessly to care for some of the most critical heart and stroke patients."

"With stroke being the No. 5 cause of death in both the U.S. and Texas, treatment and rehabilitation both play vital roles in combating this devastating disease," said Moneeb Ehtesham, M.D., a vascular neurosurgeon and Stroke Program co-medical director on the medical staff at Texas Health Fort Worth.

"Offering patients advanced, 24-hour neurocritical care is essential in their survival," added Ehtesham, who is employed by Texas Health Physicians Group1. "The multidisciplinary care team can immediately manage medical complications affecting other organs, such as the heart and kidneys, that stroke patients sometimes face."

In fact, Texas Health Fort Worth cares for the highest number of stroke patients2 in North Texas. It's the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in Tarrant County with advanced certification from The Joint Commission. Two years ago, Texas Health Fort Worth became just the second facility in the state to earn The Joint Commission's Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification.

Still, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association.

"It's imperative that we continuously provide patients with advanced technologies that address heart and vascular disease," said Nina Asrani, M.D., a cardiologist on the Texas Health Fort Worth medical staff and executive medical director of the Heart and Vascular Service Line for Texas Health Resources. "We are committed to providing the highest quality of cardiovascular care to our patients to improve their well-being and get them back to their loved ones. When that commitment turns into national recognition, that's a pleasant bonus."
