PRESS RELEASE 152
Foreign Affairs, Defence and A Coruña City Council will lead the event taking place on 4-5 February
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, together with A Coruña City Council, will lead the organisation in Spain of the third global summit on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM) on 4-5 February 2026, in coordination with the governments of the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea.
The third REAIM summit comes at a time when artificial intelligence is no longer a technology of the future but an increasingly present reality in all areas of human activity, with particular significance in the military domain.
Spain is firmly committed to international efforts to ensure the responsible use of this technology, therefore, the aim of the summit in A Coruña is to advance towards realistic, concrete and progressive measures that will make the principles of responsible AI use in the military sector operationally effective.
Foreign and Defence ministers, alongside representatives from governments, regional and international organisations, industry, academia and civil society, will be invited to the third REAIM summit, who will be able to submit proposals for activities to be carried out during the summit by 14 December via this form.
In preparing for the summit, Spain will build on the progress made by previous host countries, as reflected in the Call to Action and Blueprint for Action, agreed upon following the summits in The Hague and Seoul.
The REAIM initiative, Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain, is the main international process promoting the exchange of ideas among governments, regional and international organisations, industry, academia and civil society. It contributes to the development of principles for the responsible use of AI in the military domain.
Since the first REAIM summit, held in The Hague in February 2023, there have been significant technological advances and increasingly widespread use of AI on the battlefield. Today, more and more States are developing national guidelines and principles for military AI use, with the aim of addressing its challenges and making the most of the opportunities this technology offers.
The organisation of the REAIM summit in A Coruña is supported by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, through the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA).
