Applications are now being accepted for SLO County's Student Elections Ambassador Program. Going into its second year, the program provides an opportunity for local high school students to gain expertise in voter registration directly from Elections Office staff so that they can engage their peers in outreach and voter education efforts.
The San Luis Obispo County Elections Office is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 Student Elections Ambassador Program (SEAP).
This program gives local high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the election process while serving their communities during the 2026 election cycle. Student Elections Ambassadors work alongside election staff to help support voter outreach and promote civic engagement.
Participants will learn how elections are conducted in San Luis Obispo County, develop leadership and communication skills, and gain valuable experience in public service.
Eligible students much be at least 15 years old, a high school student, and reside in SLO County. If selected for the program, they'll complete a self-paced online training module and then attend an orientation at the Elections Center in August.
During the 2026-27 school year, student Elections Ambassadors may assist with activities such as:
"This program gives students a unique opportunity to see democracy in action while making a meaningful contribution to their community," said Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano. "It was such a pleasure getting to know the first group of SEAP ambassadors this year and we're all excited to build on the program going forward."
Applications will be accepted through June 15. Interested students can apply online at Student Elections Ambassador Program (SEAP) Application or learn more at Student Elections Ambassador Program - County of San Luis Obispo. They are also encouraged to contact [email protected] with any questions.
The Elections Office encourages students from throughout San Luis Obispo County to apply and become part of the next generation of civic leaders.
