Milling and Resurfacing on Route 1 in Waterford and New London

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a milling and resurfacing project will be performed on Route 1 in Waterford and New London. This project is scheduled to occur on Wednesday evening, June 24 and be completed on Thursday morning, July 30, 2026. Project No. DOT01720558CN "DD" consists of milling and resurfacing a 1.55-mile segment of Route 1 from Route 156 (Rope Ferry Road) in Waterford to Service Route 641 (Jefferson Avenue) in New London. This project is scheduled to begin milling by Rafferty Fine Grading Inc. on Wednesday evening, June 24 to Thursday morning,

July 2, 2026. The resurfacing segment of this project by Tilcon CT Inc. is anticipated to begin on Sunday evening, July 19 to Thursday morning, July 30, 2026.

This project is included in CTDOT's 2026 Vendor Resurfacing Program.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 1 from Route 156 (Rope Ferry Road) in Waterford to Service Route 641 (Jefferson Avenue) in New London. Traffic control personnel, crash attenuator vehicles and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The nighttime work schedule for this project is from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday evening to Friday morning.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
