Prospects for Reforming Legal Concept of Real Estate Discussed at Tavricheskiy Palace

On 28 March, the Tavricheskiy palace hosted a meeting of the Expert Advisory Board under the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Legal Issues.

The meeting was chaired by Chair of the Expert Advisory Board, judge of the First Western District Military Court and member of the Council of the St. Petersburg Regional Branch of the "Russian Association of Judges" Yuriy Kozlov.

Participants reviewed the draft Model Law on Agreements for Transfer of Property for Use. The document is designed to provide legal regulation for various types of agreements, including contracts of sale, exchange, donation, and those involving the transfer of property ownership in exchange for annuities or lifelong care and support.

A key point of discussion was the potential reform of the legal definition of real estate within the CIS model legislation - particularly in the light of recent legislative proposals in the Russian Federation that aim to rethink the existing classification of immovable property.

Experts also exchanged views on proposals to be included in the Long-Term Plan of Model Law-Making of the CIS for 2026 - 2028
