Terry Dougherty, a geography major with a concentration in environmental studies at Millersville University, is the new student liaison to Millersville Borough.
In his position, Dougherty is responsible for presenting monthly reports to the Borough Council and representing the student body at Millersville University. This includes sharing information about events, student opinions on campus life and aspects of the University that may impact the residents of the borough. His duties as student liaison also include inviting Borough Council and residents to participate in initiatives that support Millersville University's student body.
"It's important that students are given these opportunities," Dougherty says. "It is a fantastic experience for any future career that involves communicating with large groups. Additionally, this chance gives students a voice that they possibly didn't know they had."
Dougherty was inspired to take this role because it builds on his experience working with local government and public speaking. In a previous position, Dougherty worked as an intern for the City of Allentown, where he conducted research and presented his findings to a panel of experts. . This experience prepared Dougherty to pursue a path as Millersville Borough's student liaison.
"Aside from informing the public about the events that are going on around Millerville, I want to find ways to improve the everyday life of Millersville students," he says. "What I hope to accomplish during my term is to be the best liaison for the Millersville student body that I can be."
