Press Statement by the Global Governance Group (3G) on its Nineteenth Ministerial Meeting on 23 September 2026

1 The Global Governance Group (3G)^[1] held its 19^th Ministerial Meeting in New York on 23 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 81^st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The 3G Foreign Ministers welcomed the participation of the United States and engaged in substantive, focused discussions with the United States on the G20's agenda. This annual engagement, which brings the 3G's perspectives to the G20, is part of the partnership between the G20 and small and medium-sized economies, as both sides continue to engage in dialogue on shared priority areas.

2 The United States, in its capacity as the 2026 G20 Presidency, updated the 3G on the outcomes from key G20 meetings to date, and outlined the roadmap ahead to the G20 Summit in Miami from 14 to 15 December 2026. The 3G expressed appreciation to the United States for its comprehensive briefing on the Summit preparations, as well as on outcomes of the G20 Innovation Ministerial and G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial that took place in September 2026.

3 The 3G acknowledged the G20's focus on Innovation, in particular, on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. This includes the G20's ongoing discussions on pro-innovation policies that deliver tangible economic and social benefits for our peoples. The 3G welcomed the consensus adoption of the statements from the G20 Innovation Ministerial from 1 - 2 September 2026, including the G20 AI Prosperity Objectives, as well as the outcomes of the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial from 15 - 16 September 2026.

4 The 3G members and the United States had a substantive discussion on the topic "Building an AI-ready Country". They exchanged views on formulating and implementing policies for building national AI capabilities. They underscored the importance of human capital, as well as energy security and resilience, in developing a nation's AI readiness. They also acknowledged each country's agency in developing its AI capabilities, based on its national circumstances and priorities, as well as the importance of continued international cooperation and knowledge exchanges to ensure the benefits of AI are widely shared.

5 The 3G welcomed the G20's continued engagement of non-G20 members under the United States' G20 Presidency, and reaffirmed its support for the G20's leadership on international economic issues. The session demonstrated the G20's interest in ensuring well-rounded discussions on global issues and the 3G's commitment to constructively contribute to the G20 process. The 3G encouraged future G20 Presidencies to continue engaging non-G20 members through the 3GMM, in recognition of the value that 3G members' perspectives can bring to support the G20's broader efforts to shape a stable and resilient global economy.
