COUNTY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO- Motorists can expect Lane closures with flaggers and short delays on South Higuera Street beginning Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as SoCal Gas begins installation of new gas lines within South Higuera Street, and approximately 0.5 miles north of Cloverridge Lane.
The new gas lines are being installed in conjunction with the Bob Jones Pathway Gap Closure Project to avoid conflicts between the existing gas line alignment and the proposed Bob Jones Pathway infrastructure. Work by SoCal Gas will take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete. For the safety of the public and construction crews, traffic on South Higuera Street through the work zone may be reduced to one-way travel controlled by flagging crews. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes during construction. Motorists are advised to adjust their travel plans and consider alternative routes. We understand this may be an inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we construct this long-awaited section of the trail.
Construction on Segment 1 of the Bob Jones Pathway Gap Closure Project, located between the Octagon Barn and Cloverridge lane, began on September 1, 2026. The project will include construction of a multi-use pathway to improve access and safety for bicycle and pedestrian users between the two locations. Souza Construction, of San Luis Obispo has been awarded the $10.5 million construction contract to perform the work. The project is funded through a federal Active Transportation Program (ATP) grant provided by the California Transportation Commission. It is anticipated that the project will take up to 18 months to be constructed.
