Deputy Minister of Defence Leads Public Day Programmes in Badulla, Ampara and Monaragala

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), chaired a series of Public Day programmes in Badulla, Ampara and Monaragala Districts to engage directly with members of the veteran communities and the public to address their concerns.

The first program was held on 13 March (Friday) at the Uva Provincial Council Auditorium in Badulla, where a considerable number of participants attended to present various issues and requests.
Continuing the initiative, an additional Public Day sessions were also held on 14 March (Saturday) at the District Secretariat office, Ampara and at the Divisional Secretary office, Wellawaya and Monaragala. During the programs, participants were given the opportunity to present their grievances and requests to the Deputy Minister directly. Officials from relevant institutions were directed to assist in reviewing the matters brought forward and to facilitate appropriate action.

The Public Day sessions were attended by several distinguished political representatives and officials. Among the attendees were Hon. Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, Samantha Vidyaratna, Hon. Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security, R.M. Jayawardhana Hon. MP for Badulla Sudath Balagalla, Hon. MP for Digamadulla, Wasantha Piyathissa, Hon. MP for Ampara Manjula Rathnayaka, Hon. MP for Monaragala, Chathuri Gangani, and the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC). Their participation underscored the collective commitment of the political and administrative leadership to the community.

Reinforcing its dedication to the community, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has launched this initiative to enhance communication with veterans and the public. The goal is to ensure that all welfare and administrative queries are handled promptly and efficiently by the proper authorities.
