LGA statement - Bondi Beach shooting

The antisemitic attack on Jewish people on Bondi Beach over the weekend has horrified everyone. The start of Hanukkah should be about light, hope and a celebration for Jewish communities.

Any act of racism is deeply concerning and completely unacceptable. Acts of hate and discrimination have no place in our society and the local government sector stands firmly against it. On behalf of all councils, we extend our support to everyone impacted by this atrocious crime in Australia and to all who have been affected by it in our own Jewish communities across the country.

We also acknowledge the extraordinary bravery shown during the attack by a man of Muslim-Syrian descent, who was seriously injured while trying to save others from harm. His actions remind us all that courage and humanity transcend faith and background, and that standing together against such hatred is the only way forward.
