Recap of the first three years of Strategic Initiative Funding

In support of the advancement of NEOMED's mission, University leadership committed $2 million over the last three years to fund initiatives within the NEOMED Strategic Plan: Creating Transformational Leaders.

Kicking off in September 2021, the strategic plan lead team reviewed a wide range of proposals supporting every pillar in the plan, including People, Education, Discovery, Service and Community Engagement, Growth, and Administrative and Academic Support Operations. Fiscal year 2022, 2023 and 2024 funding was awarded as follows:

Dollars allocated: $2,000,000

Dollars requested through SIF Proposals: $3,737,290

Dollars awarded: $1,602,318

Award rounds: 20

Proposals submitted: 87

Proposals funded: 50

Over the course of 20 review cycles, 50 proposals were successfully funded. The proposals that received funding are dedicated to new action plans expanding the work already underway in support of the 42 strategic initiatives. These proposals support such new projects as the Exceptional Student Experience, the new University Lactation Space, the Employee Referral Program, Doctor for a Day and the Brand Awareness Campaign.

Project examples

"SIF funding helped make our campus more inclusive and welcoming to individuals who are breastfeeding in supporting the renovation and outfitting of a room in the F building for such purposes. This supports our mission of creating transformational leaders as the room helps us create an environment where all individuals can learn and work," says Jaclyn Boyle, project owner for the University's new lactation space.

"SIF funding allowed NEOMED to host our inaugural Doctor for a Day event, which brought eight elected officials to campus for an immersive day of learning that focused on the journey of an M.D. student, from White Coat ceremony to graduation. This event gave us an opportunity to educate and build familiarity with elected officials both regionally and across the state," says Perry Alexandrides, project owner for Doctor for a Day.

Continued support

As a result of the overwhelming response from the past three years, the strategy office is happy to announce that strategic initiative funding will continue into FY 2025, with an allocation of $250,000.
