SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE: L.A. City Provides Status Update on Progress Toward Fires

LOS ANGELES - The City continues to aggressively respond to the Palisades Fire and Hurst Fire. Mayor Karen Bass, LAFD Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, FEMA Regional Administrator Bob Fenton and U.S. Small Business Administration District Director Julie Clowes provided updates on progress to quell this emergency and move into recovery this morning.

  • Palisades Fire 11% Contained - LAFD Firefighters worked around the clock to bring the Palisades Fire to 11% containment.

  • Hurst Fire 76% Contained - There is significant progress in containing the Hurst Fire thanks to our firefighters who continue to marshal resources to extinguish this wildfire.

  • FEMA Assistance Available- FEMA staff are on the ground providing in-person support helping Angelenos apply for disaster relief at the Westwood Recreation Center and the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center.

  • Business Disaster Loans Available - The Small Business Administration is now offering home disaster loans, business disaster loans, and economic injury disaster loans, which can be applied for at lending.sba.gov.

For more information on the City's response visit emergency.lacity.gov. Angelenos should be advised that red flag warnings continue. Please stay prepared and stay vigilant. The City will continue providing regular updates and additional information.

Palisades Fire

  • LAFD has over 3,700 firefighters on scene and deployed resources including heavy duty trucks and equipment.

  • The fire remains an active emergency, having spread more than 22,660 acres with 11% containment. There still remains a potential to threaten life and property.

  • LAFD continues to make clear - there is no call for volunteer or non-sworn firefighters.

  • The City thanks CalFire and the many partners who are providing support and resources to fight the fires, save lives and protect homes.

Heed Evacuation Orders Near the Palisades Fire:

  • The City continues to provide shelter and resources to impacted families. As of 11:00 AM today, the evacuation zone map is available here. Follow the evacuation orders.

    • Firefighters and first responders are the only personnel in the evacuation area.

The Family Assistance Center is for those who are looking for loved ones/family members and friends who are missing in the Palisades area. The LAPD will be taking missing persons reports. A secondary center will be open for those affected by the Eaton Fire. **This is the last day to access the Family Assistance Center.

Archer Fire, Hurst Fire and Kenneth Fire

First responders have actively responded to each of these fires, utilizing all available resources. Due to their vigilance all evacuation orders and warnings for these four fires have been lifted.

  • The Archer Fire in Granada Hills is 100% contained, affecting 18 acres.

  • The Hurst Fire in Sylmar is 76% contained, affecting 799 acres.

  • The Kenneth Fire in West Hills is 80% contained, affecting an unknown number of acres due to it being out of the jurisdiction of LAFD.
