House Republicans Urge Georgia Senators Ossoff and Warnock to Vote to Reopen the Government and Protect Food Assistance for Georgia Families

WASHINGTON - House Republicans are calling on Georgia Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to stop blocking government funding that would keep food assistance flowing to families across the state.

More than 513,900 Georgia households rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table. Yet, Senate Democrats, including Georgia Senators Ossoff and Warnock, have voted 14 times to block government funding that would protect these benefits.

"Fourteen times, these senators have had the opportunity to prevent millions of Americans from going hungry - and they chose politics over people," House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain said."We urge Senators Ossoff and Warnock to do the right thing and vote YES to reopen the government and secure food assistance for Georgia families in need."

"The government shutdown has now become the longest in U.S. history because Senate Democrats refuse to do their job,"said Congressman Rich McCormick (GA-07)."House Republicans passed a clean funding bill that would keep the government open and ensure essential programs like SNAP continue without interruption. Yet, Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock have voted fourteen times to keep the government closed, disrupting food assistance for more than half a million Georgia families. It's time for them to put the political games aside and put Georgians first."

House Republicans passed a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government and ensure essential programs like SNAP continue without interruption. Senate Democrats, including Ossoff and Warnock, have repeatedly blocked it.

By the numbers:

  • Georgia share of households with SNAP: 513,900
  • Households in poverty in Georgia: 567,774
  • Nationwide share of people with SNAP: 42 million
