Updated respiratory virus vaccine recommendations and influenza clinical considerations now available

As the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season begins, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) have released 2026-2027 recommendations for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV vaccinations. These recommendations provide important guidance to support evidence-based vaccine discussions and help ensure patients receive timely protection against respiratory viruses.

Review the updated 2026-2027 respiratory virus vaccine recommendations and resources from AAFP, AAP, ACOG, and IDSA.

CDC has released Interim Clinical Considerations for the 2026-2027 influenza season and confirmed that the influenza vaccine recommendations outlined in the July 2025 immunization schedule remain in effect for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season; pharmacy personnel may continue to follow the July 2025 schedule when providing influenza vaccinations.

Since vaccination regulations vary by state, pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians should be aware of their state's vaccination authorities and requirements. Check with your state board of pharmacy or supervising pharmacist to determine how these recommendations apply in your practice setting.
